Tarot and Cathedral Carvings |
XVI - Maison Dieu |
There are three major early representations of the card commonly called the Tower and, in French, Maison Dieu. Each of these has its corresponding images in stone carvings (literally 'petroglyphs') on religious buildings occuring before the 14th century.
Below follows early card representations and their corresponding petroglyph precedents. I am not suggesting that the petroglyphs are causally related to Tarot imagery, but do suggest that connections exist. These I will explore at a later date.
